ANIAMTION EVALUATION
1. ZOETROPES
The zoetrope was invented by William George Horner in 1834. It was an early form of motion picture projector that includes a drum containing a set of still images, that was turned in a circular fashion in order to create the illusion of motion. The zoetrope was originally named the 'Daedatelum' but a French inventor by the name Pierre Desvignes then renamed his version of it the zoetrope. A series of images are drawn in this drum-type device and once it's spun, it creates this illusion of motion. It has slots between each picture which is used to see through. More than one person can see the moving images at a time. These images then represent different movements. Here's an example below:
2. EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE
Eadweard Muggeridge was born in 1830 and died in 1904. He was born and raised in Kingston Upon Thames, England and where he then would leave to explore America at the age of 20. This was mainly because his current home had became too boring for him to reside in. When he settled in America, he first started working in a bookstore but after this stage in his life, he moved to San Francisco in 1955. This is where he first got a taste of photography and where he decided that he should change his name to Muybridge. After his time in America, he went back to England as a photographer and was seen as an artist with the camera.
3. LOTTE REINIGER
Lotte Reiniger, when mentioned at all, is most known for her feature-length silhouette film in 1926, The Adventures of Prince Achmed. At the time, this was a brilliant feature, a wonderful film full of charming comedy and included lyrical romance, vigorous and exciting battles, eerie magic, and truly sinister, frightening evil. The original symphonic score by Wolfgang Zeller, one of the great film composers.
4. PAT SULLIVAN AND OTTO MESSMER
Felix the Cat was the first animated character to ever become so famous that he attracted a movie sized audience. Felix the Cat is one of the most noticeable characters in animation, and was highly popular during the silent era of film. This popular was created by Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer and the cartoon cat actually became more popular than pop stars at one period of time. Starting of in comics, he then made his way onscreen. Felix the Cat was very revolutionary to the world of animation as he was the first cartoon animation to be broadcast on TV.
5. Walt Disney
Walt Disney has definitely got to be one of the most famous animators of all time. He is one of the great minds that created Mickey Mouse which became the biggest characters in cartoon ever and still is to this day. He then created several short animated films and a few feature films. Examples of these movies are Bambi and Cinderella. When Disney died, his legacy lived on and from this, his animations, resorts and awards stay big today.

Animation Evaluation
ANIMATION EVALUATION
This is a video created and made by a couple friends of mine. The original goal was to try out claymation which was successful as shown in the video above. Both the two team members of this short episode played around with movement but ended up using that footage as the opening. The next step after this one was complete was to name the characters and create a story within the video. This meant digging deeper into vanity and how other would react. This animation turned out to be a very good one, including all it needed in terms of comedy.
POSITIVE
Sound effects
Lighting
Smooth filming
NEGATIVE
The sound effects were not placed in time with the video.
Some of the movements coming from the characters in the video weren't entirely clear as planned.

TELEVISION ADVERTISING (Task 2)
TASK: Advertisers use a variety of techniques to get us to buy goods or
services. Some of them are listed below. Can you fill in the gaps and find an
example of an advert which fits the persuasive technique used?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Anecdote: Personal experience
or story which is sold to us as proof.
The advert opens up with the children's show 'Pengu' playing on a computer which follows a shot of a young boy laughing. He looks to his left and the audience see a live and cheerful penguin next to him. This leads to scenes of him interacting/playing with the penguin like going on small adventures. Scenes included them having snowball fights with the family as well as the penguin and another scene included the boy and the penguin watching a romantic movie, leading to the penguin wanting something similar to that. Once the boy started to realise, he got another female penguin. As the mother of the young boy walks into his room, it is revealed that the penguins are only toys as the tagline "Give someone the Christmas they've been dreaming of" appears on the screen.
This anecdote shows how active one's imagination could be just from shopping at John Lewis. This could reach to any age range as John Lewis' products have a wide age range but they decided to target this advert at young children.
Adjectives: Crisp, fresh,
healthy, nutritious, etc
Adventures In Imagination: M&S Food - TV Ad 2014
This food advert, which ends with the tagline ‘Only M&S’ promises ‘ADVENTURES IN IMAGINATION’. It shows food such as eggs, pomegranate and mince being used to create dishes as well as art, while Clean Bandit by Rather Be featuring Jess Glynne plays in the background. This advertisement really just projects the fun in food and how creative ones mind can be with the different types of food shown.
Repetition: Key points, positives about the product, themes etc
Cadbury's Gorilla - 2007 Advert
This advert consists of a very simple, ninety second tracking-shot across a music studio. The only thing the advert includes is a gorilla playing the drums with "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins playing in the background. This advertisement became very popular and had received good feedback. This also meant lots of parodies of the hilarious advert. Around the time the advert was released, Cadbury's brand went up by 20%. It was so simple and repetitive but a well put and smart advert.

TELEVISION ADVERTISING (Task 5)
TASK 5
AUDIENCE PROFILING
Audiences can be segmented in other ways as well as the socio-economic model above:
- Age
- Gender
- Demographic (where the audience live)
- Profiling (this is often done by advertisers to identify ‘types’ of consumers)
- Values, attitudes and lifestyles (in other words the types of products which are likely to appeal to those with these values, attitudes and lifestyles.
Watch a series of adverts and identify as accurately as possible the target audience for each, provide a link and give explanations to back up your conclusions about why the advert appeals to the specific demographic.
CADBURY’S GORILLA ADVERT
The target audience for this advert can go from young ages to older ages, maybe around 10-55. The reason for this is mainly because the advertisement easily makes families as well as elderlies entertained. Children usually find silly things hilarious, explaining the gorilla playing the drums. Adults could easily find the advertisement humorous and what could grab their attention even more is the song choice. ‘In The Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins was and still is a popular song. This advertisement is targeted to all genres and they could live anywhere and still want to buy it. Its a chocolate bar so you could buy it from any shop.
JOHN LEWIS CHRISTMAS ADVERT 2014
The target audience for this advert could be aged from 5-30. The reason I say up to thirty is mainly because parents of a young child may find it adorable and it may even encourage them to visit John Lewis. Children from five and over have such a pure imagination that you can imagine them begging their parents to go and purchase such things as the penguin toy shown in the advert. This advert appeals to all genders as children of all genders can have such a wild and pure imagination. With adults, I think women may be more interested in the advertisement than men but I still believe men would be interested in it after seeing it. Demographically, I think this would appeal to the audiences who live in town. John Lewis shops are usually placed in quite busy areas, so I think that the people who are around those areas usually the ones who visit there.
SKY MOVIES CHRISTMAS ADVERT 2014
The target audience for this advert could possibly be from the ages of approximately 5-18 and I say this because of the fantasy theme used. The advert is about a family in their living room watching Sky Movies as they are sucked into many different films. These films include:
- The Amazing Spider-Man 2
- LEGO Movie
- Frozen
This advertisement is also targeted to all genders. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is mainly targeted towards boys. ‘LEGO Movie’ is targeted towards both genders due to it including childhood toys. ‘Frozen’ is mainly targeted towards girls. That’s mainly why I believe this advertisement is targeted to all genders since it includes clips of all these movies. Demographically, I think this would appeal to the audiences who live anywhere but own Sky or a TV. Even though ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is rated 12, the advert is targeted towards families. Spider-Man was used mainly because its a superhero movie, so it doesn’t include much violence.
TELEVISION ADVERTISING (Task 1)
TASK 1
TELEVISION ADVERTISING
- Explain what TV advertising is?
Television advertisement is all about relaying a specific social, political or sales pitch in a limited amount of time, broadly ranging in between few seconds to several minutes. More expensive than other form of promotion, it is produced and paid for by the organisations called advertiser or marketer and streamed from a television network. The purpose is to generate demand for a product, service, idea or cause. Advertising regulations define the laws and rules under which a product can be advertised.
2. View three different contemporary TV advertisements and list three characteristics.
- Products/Organisation
- An event
- Target Audience
In all advertisements, the company and/or brand always advertises a product or an organisation. The advert is made to try and attract the audience to their product/organisation so this part is very crucial. Coming up with a unique idea is key. Events are usually shown also. The writers have to come up with a story to use within the advertisement that would make and keep the audience interested. The definition of a target audience is basically something that is meant for specific people. This could mean children, adults, different genders, different races etc. When writers for advertisements come up with ideas for their advert, they also focus on the target audience.

5 WAYS TO ORGANISE CLIP IN YOUR BROWSERS
Down below are five different ways in organising your clips and/or audio files in Final Cut Pro 7.
These five steps include:
COLOUR CODING
(CMD-ALT-2,3,4 OR 5)
Colour coding your clips and audio gives you an easier opportunity to get things done.
RENAME THE CLIPS AND AUDIO
(Click twice but don't double click)
When work is labeled with a name of your choice, it makes looking for the specific clips and/or audio easier.
ORGANISING COLUMNS
(Click twice but don't double click)
Organising the clips and audio files makes the whole project much easier. It also gives you a crystal clear view of what is good and what isn't good.
CREATE FOLDERS/BINS
(CMD-B)
This makes finding what you're looking for twice as easier. Separating different types of files and placing them in specific folders will save you time looking fore them.
COLOUR CODE YOUR FOLDERS/BINS
(CMD-B AND CMD-ALT-2,3,4 OR 5)
Colour coding lets you know how good what you're actually using is as well as making it easier for you to edit on top of that.
